Visionary Dance Theatre presents “VDT10 – A Decade of Visions” at the Horton Grande Theatre (444 Fourth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101) on March 20-21, 2020 @ 7:30pm.
“VDT10 – A Decade of Visions” is a concert celebration of Visionary Dance Theatre’s ten years of bringing dance and the performing arts to San Diego County. Always brave and daring, VDT has broken the mold on what dance is and what it can become. It has always been VDT’s goal to combine veteran dancers and emerging artists together in collaboration to redefine dance and to share its findings with the audience.
This evening of dance and celebration will include three exciting guest choreographers. The first artist is Emily Navarra. She is the founder and director of The Movement Kitchen in Chicago, Illinois. She is also the curator of Holding Common Ground, an annual cultural exchange dance event in Vietnam. Emily will be presenting “Sounding the Center”. This work explores encounters, gatherings and the core of communities through kinship, solace and comfort. The second artist is Kareen Balsam. She holds two dance degrees; a BFA in Dance from University of California, Santa Barbara and an MFA in Dance and Technology from The Ohio State University, where she was a university fellow. Kareen will set a solo work on VDT Dancer Eva Anderson. The third artist is Jeanne Travers, a regular guest artist and master teacher at VDT. She is an internationally-acclaimed choreographer and Professor of Dance at University of South Florida. Jeanne will be re-staging her 2009 work “Tunisian Nights”.
Also included in this production, Artistic Director Spencer John Powell will present a new work on titled “Chapters”. This work is inspired by those who have helped VDT come into itself this past decade, including the challenges and the rewards. Two VDT dancers have also been invited to present new work in this concert, James LaRose and Morgan Taylor.
We have just began and we are thrilled about our bright future. Join us this for three new works and three from the past decade. Come out and celebrate ten years of dance with Visionary Dance Theatre at our Tenth Anniversary concert! Catch The Vision!
