Visionary Dance Theatre presents “Breathe” at the Visionary Performance Space (8674 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA  91942) on October 21-23, 2021 @ 7pm.

Artistic Director Spencer John Powell premieres “CAPUT VII Aeternum”, a respite of dance chronicling a body of work in celebration of accomplishment, overcoming fear, and the embodiment of what it is to be a creator of movement.  Internationally-acclaimed choreographer and Professor of Dance at University of South Florida Jeanne Travers will set her work Stirrings of the Soul” on the dancers of VDT, making its US debut premiere.  This work drew its inspiration from her travels to Angkor Wat in Cambodia in 2019. The powerful images of the temple ruins suggest a sense of spirit souls that seem to navigate along with us throughout time and space.

Past Visionary Studio Manager and Ballet Mistress Kiona Daelyn is back as guest choreographer to set a new work set to the music of Chopin. VDT Dancer Margaret Moreno will also present a new work titled “Tears of Midas.”  This work explores the concept of greed and how it’s consuming and self-destructive nature has affected the balance of life on the planet.  This work questions if humans can truly change the hunger for wealth and power in order to restore balance.

VDT will end the evening with pure dance as it revives the 2013 work “72nd Street Blues,” choreographed by Spencer John Powell. This VDT archive celebrates blues music and encompasses the dance genres of Jazz, Ballet, and Modern dance. You will leave the performance humming and completely energized from the recent respite of dance.

Join us as we celebrate dance to its fullest, showcasing a variety of dance works created by choreographers Kiona Daelyn, Margaret Moreno, Spencer John Powell, and Jeanne Travers.
